Fund est. by order of MH in May (w/Jewish Agency as arbitrator) & owners of property required to take policies - but as MH not the govt., order lacked force & Israeli govt. eventually underwrote Fund's costs (1951). The cover was flown by Czechoslovak Airlines on 15 June, flying via Haifa (as Lydda not operational until Sept. 1948)-Athens-Rome-Prague; CSA opened the Israel-Hungary postal route less than a week earlier, on June 9th. Opened at bottom, left edge creases; preserved on original exhibition mount. The Israeli trilingual pmk entered local use on 1 July.

Four month transit time; mail originating from hostile territory.
1948 early incoming airmail: I VII 1948 Israeli government airmail cover ex representative in GENEVA to [director general of Foreign Office of "Provisional Government of Israel"] Walter Eitan in TEL AVIV, franked 120c and tied by slogan machine cancellation; arrived 13-7-1948, b/s by HAKIRYA (govt-military complex in TLV) pmk. Most probably transported by Air France and received at Sde Dov airfield (reopened as of mid-June) or Haifa; slit open at top, small peripheral tear on top right.
