Givati infantry Brigade 54th Battalion "Lag Ba'Omer" [Jewish holiday] uniface event token, 1967; bronze(?); weight: 11.9g; size: 32mm x 39mm. Obverse depicts emblem of the battalion with its number below, and legend "Lag Ba'Omer 5727 ".
The Lag Ba'Omer holiday falls every year on the 18th of the month of Iyar, which in 1967 would have been about a week (28 May) before the 6 Day War, although "greater Israel" is visible on the Battalion's emblem.
The celebrated battalion event is unknown but it would have been for battalion veterans as the battalion along with the Givati Brigade itself was disbanded after the War of Independence (1947-49), though the (84th) Givati Brigade was re-established again later in 1983. Among other events the Lag Ba'Omer holiday commemorates a positive change in the fortunes of the Bar Kokhba revolt of the years 132-136, and this may tie in to the national mood of that time, prior to the War.
