Description
Irgun/Etzel collar pin, c. 1930's-40's. Emblem originally designed by Lili Strasman-Lubinsky, who, at Avraham Stern's suggestion founded & edited the movement's newspaper in Warsaw "Jerozolima wyzwolona" ("Jerusalem Liberated") in August 1938: for the 3rd edition of the paper (Dec. 1938), Strasman added the emblem which subsequently became adopted as the Etzel's symbol. The symbol was subsequently redesigned by the movement's "HaMashkif" ("The Observer") newspaper caricaturist Yoshua Edri, and it officially became the Etzel's symbol.
