France: André Salmon bronze medal by Maurice Savin, ND; size: 66mm; weight: 142.35g. Obverse: left-facing portrait of Salmon with legend in French above. Reverse: image of woman in a sea supporting a man holding a balance. Salmon (1881-1969) was a French poet, art critic and writer; an early defender of Cubism; he may have been Jewish, and ironically prosecuted after World War II for continuing to write for the newspaper 'Le Petit Parisien', which became a pro-Nazi propaganda outlet during the occupation. This medal is one of a series designed by Savin, honoring French artists.
