Airmail to ship: 1 SEP 1935 uprated Mandate postal card with letter in German dated same day in Haifa, from HAIFA to a passenger on the SS Mariette Pacha paquebot of the French Messageries Maritime transport company (referenced in the address), in MARSEILLE; franked 10m using a combination of the pre-printed frank + pictorals, at the period Imperial Airways postcard rate to France. Rare postal link. The ship was launched in 1925 and operated on a fast route leg of the Levant - Marseille-Alexdria-Beirut; requisitioned as a troop transport for the Levant in 1939, later in the Vichey-French navy; ceded to Germany in 1943 but scuttled in Marseille in 1944.
