1948 wartime Palestine/Israel - original Post Office notice: mimeographed 23 July 1948 notice PBN 2739 from the British General Post Office (London) announcing resumption of unregistered air mail service for letters weighing under 2 ounces & postcards to "certain [Jewish-controlled] places in Palestine" and lists 15 of the "more important" locales (including JERUSALEM, after siege ended 20 June). The listed rates are 6d for air letters, 6d per half ounce for airmail letters under 2 ounces, and 3d for postcards. "No correspondence of other kinds can be forwarded". The notice also states that a similar type of announcement for "Arab-controlled areas will be issued as soon as satisfactory local arrangements have been made". In mint condition. Note the period reference to the region as "Palestine".
