Description

Ottoman maritime mail: 20 IX 1894 dated postcard in Danish on 1892 issue Ottoman postal stationary postcard (Bale unlisted: like #709 frame-type C but lacking "avec response payee") from JAFFA (see bottom of correspondence) to COPENHAGEN Denmark, with pre-printed 20pa franking per 1st UPU period overseas postcard rate; as the franking was tied by a 'Retta' (Egyptian) cancellation, the postcard was deposited uncancelled in a ship's post box when docked in JAFFA harbor, and actually processed when it reached PORT SAID (Egypt) and was cancelled by the Retta there + tied by 21 IX 94 POST SAID transit postmark on front; front-stamped 28-9-94 arrival using Copenhagen K. "OMB 2" (ombæringsstempler) delivery mark (the "2" reference was a record of delivery time using numbers instead of actual time). Rare route & marking + rare destination not highlighted in Bale. Estimated value $2000+
