Description
WWII/Holocaust era camps > Auschwitz: 26-08-1941 dated deposit receipt ('Einlieferungsschein') for a 10 Reichsmark money order sent to a prisoner with a Polish name at Block 3a of "Lager Auschwitz" from LITZMANNSTADT (Lodz). The postal stationary form requests on reverse "Please do not use [this space] for messages for the recipient". Of historical note, the first gassings at Auschwitz - of Soviet and Polish prisoners - took place in block 11 around August 1941. The sending locale was a large Jewish population center and the site of the Lodz Ghetto.
