Description
Lebanese postal boycott of Israel: 22 JLY 1956 registered commercial airmail cover from NORTHWOOD (UK) to ZAHALA "Israel", franked 9d & tied by machine cancel; British post office was confused by address name & routed the cover to LEBANON (backstamped 24-VII-56 BEYROUTH transit) where transmitted onwards to ZAHLE (capital of Beqaa Governorate), here backstamped next day arrival - there routing error realized & "no service" manuscript message written in English "No communications between Lebanon and Israel", and returned; backstamped 13 AU 56 LONDON transit (where "UNDELIVERED" instructional marking handstamp applied on front) + next day arrival. Less than 10 documents from Lebanon are known marked "no service" in manuscript + this cover unique as 'delivered' albeit to Arab destination after local receipt & sorting.
