American Christian prayer tallion with the Priestly blessing & 10 Commandments

American National Federation of Jewish Men's Clubs silver Judaica medal c. 1940s
14370107
United States: National Federation of Jewish Men's Clubs medal, circa. pre-1950's; silver; manufactured by Popular E & M company of New York; size (tallion only): 23mm x 34.5mm; weight: 12.15g. The medal is oval and uniface, depicting the Federation's original emblem, with its name around the edge, and attached to a blue and white ribbon. The Federation is part of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, founded in 1929, but established across north American and abroad, including Israel. The purpose of the Federation is to build a network from existing Jewish men's clubs, to strengthen Jewish identity and help tackle common problems. The Federation has managed over the years a series of different community programs and within their framework it issues service awards and prizes to members or affiliated clubs - and this medal is probably one of those prizes awarded in the past. Unlike most other (Conservative) Jewish organizations originating in the United States, after 1952 the FJMC ceased to view New York as the center of the Jewish community of America, and has elected then and since presidents from beyond the East Coast and also from Canada. As this medal was manufactured in New York and bears the Federation's old emblem it probably dates from the 1930's-40's; in AU-Unc.

Obverse depicts Star of David with Hebrew date for year "5693"; artist's name lightly engraved between the swirls of the design; on reverse image of Moses bearing the Tablets descending Mount Sinai and legend in Hebrew "And Moses Descended Unto the People". The "Jewish Day" is recorded by some observers as "the greatest Jewish spectacle ever staged in Chicago", and it took place on July 3, 1933, at Soldier Field, before more than 125,000 people. It was sponsored by the Jewish Agency for Palestine (the quasi-governmental authority of the Jewish community in Palestine), with the President of the Zionist Congress, Dr. Chaim Weizmann, specially invited as the keynote speaker. The musical-theatrical pageant "The Romance of A People" was the culminating event of the day (which took five years to plan) which commemorated Jewish contributions to the city of Chicago since its founding in 1833. The "Jewish Day" was one of around 24 such days planned by the Fair Committee to commemorate the contributions of various nationalities which comprised the city of Chicago - as the Jews identified themselves closely with Palestine, the Jewish Agency was involved in the organizations and hence the themes of the event and this token. In AU with some surface residue from coin holder.
