American military maritime mail in Palestine: 7 APR 1926 commercial cover from USS PITTSBURGH in HAIFA to Navy Savings Bank NEW YORK (United States/America), franked 2c per military mail rate & tied by ship's datehead + HAIFA | PALESTINE obliterator - token of a rare short visit by the ship; per crew diaries it appears the sailors visited Nablus (Shchem) by land and made their way to Haifa where the [re-]boarded the ship. Slit open at top, very fine.
