Oded [reserve] Infantry Brigade 20 year commemoration medal, 1968; weight: 15.75g; size: 35mm. Obverse depicts the emblem of the brigade with Hebrew dates beneath: "5708" and "5728" ; on reverse Hebrew legend in stylized letters "9th Oded Brigade assembly [at] Khoreshet Tal [national park] 20.8.68".
The Oded Brigade was created from the 11th Elon battalion of the Levanoni Brigade, in May 1948: Levanoni was a regional infantry brigade charged with defending the whole of northern Israel, but to cope with the strain of the assignment it was split into the 1st Golani and 2nd Carmeli brigades (each assigned a sector of the north), and then split further in order to create the 9th Oded Brigade, which was assigned the north-west corner of the Galillee and Golan approaches. In the 1950's it was turned into a reserve infantry brigade.
