Israel: olive green 'Kova Gerev' ('sock hat'), circa. 1947-48. Widely seen & used during 1947-49 War of Independence, surprisingly hard to find - possibly because vulnerability to wear and tear in the field & moths. Hat is of double-layered fabric, sewn shut at the top; can be double folded along the base rim. During the War such hats widely used by and identified with the "Palmach" forces, though also used by other Israeli infantry forces. Not maker marked; w/o additional markings.
