Depicts patron saint St. George slaying a dragon (i.e. Nazi Germany); known in Hebrew as the "Kheyl Mitnadvim Ha'Eretz-Israeli", it numbered up to 2,000 men as a home guard force. Formed in Aug. 1940, funded by the Mandate, and based in the 3 main cities, it was open to all British subjects in Palestine & local citizens, tasked with assisting the regular British Army in preparation for war and protecting internal security; there were 2 companies in Jerusalem. In excellent condition; rare.
