South African [Jewish?] soldier's letter to Jewish civilian Haifa using SA pre-printed 4 pence franked reg. envelope ex APO 32 (Helwan, Egypt), posted via "Egypt 37" (SA army post service) 21 OC 42; b/s Haifa 26 OC 42, arrived FPO 550 (Haifa) 27 OC 42; unidentified APO backstamp (32?); with base censor, SA military censor & Cairo-applied deputy chief field censor cachets, and R cachet. As posted through a non-British mail service, censor opened and resealed - otherwise unusual for RE stationary mail. Postmarked two days before Second Battle of El Alamein; the sender was probably in the 1st South African Infantry Division.
