In 1951 the Govt. merged 3 largest public transport companies ("Egged" ['bundle/united'] (central Israel), "Shachar" ['Dawn'] (northern Israel) & "Drom Yehuda" ['South Judea'] (southern Israel)) into 1 & call it 'Eshed' based on 1st initial of each co.; name used briefly & by 1954 reverted back to 'Egged', hence est. pin date.
