Description
1950 Independence 1st Day on overseas mail: 23-4-1950 registered official Independence Day airmail 1st Day Cover from QIRYAT MOTZKIN (return addressed KIRYAT BIALIK) to LONDON franked 66pr at the FA-2a postage period rate to Europe (40pr letter + 25pr registration, with 1pr overcharge) using mix of 1st day 20pr & 40pr with left margins (Ba29/30) + late-use pair 3m Doar Ivri with right margin (1 week before last sold date of 30-4-50), tied by 2 full strikes of defective local trilingual postmark on front + 2 on back, and registry-label tied by scarce dateless triangular cancellation - erroniously used on a foreign and non-printed matter cover, and not during the High Holidays. Of note, the special hexigonal bilingual "Day of Issue" handstamp is partially tied to the franking & airmail etiquette - this was apparently applied at the post office branch and not by the postal service prior to general usage. Slit open at top. Very fine.
