Description
1978 taxed 'suspended service' mail: OCT 6 1978 airmail cover from ENCINO, California to RAMAT GAN meter franked $0.32 but affected by the "Brotherhood of Railway and Airline Clerks" (BRAC) strike of late September, so the franking and airmail marks crossed out and cover stamped "Return to Sender | Service Temporarily Suspended"; as the strikers were limited by Presidential emergency provision imposing back-to-work 60-day "cooling-off" period, cover transferred locally for surface dispatch; arrived 14-11-78 at KEFAR HAYYIM (near Netanya) where franked 1.10L by the postal authority (probably for missing surface mail charges per special arrangements with the Americans) using 1L 1977 2nd Landscapes Ba689 + 0.10L 1965/67 1st Town Emblems Ba333, and forwarded to RAMAT GAN. Unusual postal handling & routing, especially within Israel.
