1950 Independence / rates & routes: 10-5-1950 surface mailed registered printed matter cover from TEL AVIV to SAN FRANCISCO franked 35pr at the SU-2 postage period rate (10pr printed-matter + 25pr registration) using mix full tabbed 20pr (Ba29) + 15pr 1949 2nd Coinage (Ba24) tied by 2x strikes of Maritime Day event illustrated slogan cancel (Nacht #24) on front + 2x on back; backstamped 5-27-1950 NEW YORK transit + 2 different MAY 31 1950 SAN FRANCISCO arrival postmarks on back & date-stamp on front. As unclaimed, after 2nd delivery attempt 6/30 (manuscript), returned to sender: outbound from NEW YORK July 1950 and arrived TEL AVIV 24-8-1950. A well traveled properly handled and documented cover; slit open at top and bottom; peripheral edge tears and creases. Scarce rate and route (surface mail with the Independence Day franks is rare, worth +150% of the stamp value per Bale); estimated value $300+
