WWII transatlantic air mail (FAM-22): FEB 1943 commerial cover on business stationary from CHICAGO to HAIFA, franked 70c per period transatlantic airmail rate & tied by local slogan machine cancel; the cover was opened & resealed by the US censor & backstamped 17-2-43 LEOPOLDVILLE (Belgian Congo) transit; subsequently marked on the front by the Egyptian civil censor & the Palestine censor in Haifa (number unclear) + 2 MAR 1943 arrival; slit open at left. The Leopoldville transit indicates the cover was taken by 'Foreign Air Mail' route FAM-22 operated by Pan-Am. The route this cover took would have been: Chicago-Miami-San Juan (Puerto Rico)-Port of Spain (Trinidad/British West Indies)-Belem (Brazil)-Natal-Fisherman's Lake (Liberia)-Leopoldville; from there it would have been taken by the Egyptian MISR or British BOAC airlines for onward transmission (eg. Cairo), probably from there by sea to Haifa.
